RIDING FOR SOMETHING BIGGER

For four days, our hometown Mechelen was filled with pelotons, supporters and emotion as the 1000 KM took over our city once again. Teams ride 250 kilometres a day, covering 1000 KM in total, all to raise money for innovative cancer research and support everyone affected by this terrible disease.

From early mornings to late finishes, our city square became the heart of the event — filled with pelotons rolling out, supporters lining the streets and an atmosphere that’s hard to put into words. A reminder of how powerful the cycling community can be when people come together for something bigger than sport.

One of those riders was Evert, co-founder of Erstwhile and part of the Vélo Klub family. After getting sick in 2017, he crossed the finish line in his hometown Mechelen today, with his family closely involved every step of the way and several of them riding alongside him.

“Life moves fast, really fast. Days like today press pause for a moment. I enjoyed every second of it — the peloton, the supporters, the incredible organisation, but even more the reminder of how lucky I am. I’m still here, surrounded by an amazing family, friends along the road and at the finish, and the love of my life with our two little champions."

Seeing so many people come together for a cause like this reminds us what cycling is really about. Supporting each other. Riding together. And helping create hope for everyone affected by this terrible disease. We’re incredibly proud to play a small part in that through Vélo Klub.

And Evert, we couldn't be more proud of you 💛
