A supremely talented 400 metre runner, Derek Redmond’s career was blighted by recurring injuries. Having fought back to fitness to compete in 1992, Redmond would suffer a sickening hamstring tear during the semi-finals. Despite collapsing to the track, Redmond was determined to finish and was supported by his father who avoided a host of stewards to rush to his son’s aid. Though the results will forever show that Redmond ‘did not finish’ his eventual completion of those 400 metres has been hailed as one of the most moving displays of determination in sporting history.
In honour of this display of true Olympic spirit, we welcome you to the 'Fathers & Sons Running Club.
