Czechoslovakian hero Emil Zatopek was a man of grim determination and outstanding valour who committed to ‘die a little’ with his all-in approach to every race. In 1952, the former shoemaker from the now Slovakian town of Zlin would take gold in the 5,000 metres and 10,000 metres but stunned the games by completing an unlikely hat-trick when he decided to compete in the first marathon of his life and won.
